Zuppa Toscana

A few weeks ago, on a cold and wet Sunday night, I decided I wanted to try and make a new warm and delicious soup.  I searched the web for different recipes and came across Zuppa Toscana which I have had before at Olive Garden and loved.  My husband had his doubts but the soup turned out so yummy!  B even looked past the onions (which he HATES) and went back for 2nds and 3rds!  Here is the recipe!

Ingredients:

Directions:
  1. 1Cook sausage in a 300°F oven for approximately 30 minutes.
  2. 2Drain sausages on paper towels and cut into slices.
  3. 3Place onions, potatoes, chicken broth, water, garlic in pot, and cook on medium heat until potatoes are done.
  4. 4Add sausage and bacon.
  5. 5Salt and pepper to taste.

Christmas Goodies and Cards

Christmas is my favorite time of year!  I love the decorations, the hustle and bustle, and of course the food!!!  Every year my team at work gives Christmas gifts to each other... blankets, candles, baked goodies, bottles of wine, etc,.  This year I decided to bake spiced pecans and package them up for my gift.  I was really pleased with the way they turned out... including my homemade tag:)

I also took a homemade approach to our Christmas cards this year... I purchased the digital file of our card through etsy and then had them printed out at Walgreens.  Total cost for digital file and 65 4x6 prints = $28.  Then I took some scrapbook paper and "make your own invitation" invitations and glued it all together.  I added a bow on some for a little something extra:)  Total cost for 65 Christmas cards was $45.  Not too bad!

Baby What a Big Surprise!

On December 27th my wonderful husband will turn 30!!!  Both Buddy and I are December babies so birthdays are typically pretty low key as we are in the throws of Christmas but I knew that I could not let 30 just slip on by:)  I began talking to some of our close friends months ago to figure out a good date for a surprise party... I know that everyone is traveling and Christmas Partying so I wanted to make sure I could pick a date that would allow for a good crowd to be there.  I finally decided on Monday, December 13th (just 2 days after my birthday) and the place would be Mama Mia's, one of Buddy's favorite Nashville restaurants.  I told Buddy that we were going to eat out with some friends for my birthday and he completely bought it:)

I wanted to make sure we had some fun with the big 3-0 so I enlisted the help of my dear friend, Tiffiny to make t-shirts for everyone to wear that said "I'm With The OLD GUY.  Happy 30th Buddy!"  I also cut out pictures of Buddy's face and attached them to sticks so that when Buddy walked in everyone would hold up the faces and yell "surprise!"  Buddy is also a big cigar guy so I had a cake made at Publix that said, "Like a Fine Cigar, You Just Get Better With Age.  Happy 30th Birthday Buddy!"  I cannot tell you how excited I was once the day finally arrived... I am not good at keeping secrets and this was a huge one to keep!

My husband is notorious for being 30 minutes early so it was quite a task to keep him delayed (knowing that if we go there too soon it would ruin the surprise).  Once we finally got to the restaurant he could see that there was a large group inside and immediately thought that they were throwing a surprise party for me!  He was kind of upset as we walked in because they had not included him in on the surprise and even when I said "Well maybe this is a surprise for you!" and he looked out at the crowd of "OLD GUY" shirts and his face he still didn't get it!  It took about 15 minutes for him to figure out that every one was there for him:)  It was a success!!!  We had such a great time and I am so thankful for my sweet friends who helped me pull it all off!!!  Here are the pictures!

The day I became Mrs. Ladd

Before getting to my husband's surprise 30th birthday I thought it would be best to blog a little about our wedding on October 10, 2010.  Buddy and I began dating in October 2006 and he proposed in May 2009.  I had my heart set on a fall wedding in a barn and we quickly decided that the Belle Meade Plantation in Nashville would be the perfect setting.  While the ceremony was going to be outside in the garden, the reception would take place in the carriage house...which was as close to a barn as I was going to get:)  We decided on October of 2010 and Buddy decided that 10-10-10 would be the easiest way to remember.  The planning began and before we knew it the wedding was upon us!  The day was absolutely perfect!  It was beautiful outside and despite one of my bridesmaids breaking her ankle and not being able to attend (along with her 2 children who were my ring bearer and one of my flower girls) I was cool, calm, and collected...totally uncharacteristic of me!  My mother and my great aunt made my bridesmaids' dresses, my mother enlisted the help of her friends to put together all of the decor for both the ceremony and the reception...including flowers, my mother even made my cake!  It was everything I had dreamed of and it was totally Buddy and I!  Enough talking...here are some of the pictures...

Beginning to Blog

I have become quite fond of blogs... I have found that I can get good recipes, fun craft ideas, and fabulous decorating tips.  I also enjoy seeing pictures of friends' growing baby bumps and kiddos.  While I am apprehensive that I have enough time to blog I figure it is a great way to keep our family updated and perhaps I will have a little fun!

Last night I threw my husband a surprise 30th birthday party... he was so surprised!  We have such wonderful friends who helped me put it all together and came out despite the inclement weather!  I will be posting pictures soon!
